February 25th is the National Collegiate Day of Prayer. The day of prayer is a nation-wide emphasis for spiritual awakening among the 21 million college students in the United States.
Individuals, churches and small groups are encouraged to register to pray for a college campus. The Metro Memphis area is home to 25 distinct colleges, universities and trade schools and home to over 40,000 college students. Nation-wide trends among individuals between the ages of 18-30 suggest that as many as 40% of these students consider themselves "nones," meaning they claim no religious affiliation. Not only do many of these students not affiliate with any religion, most are not actively seeking any type of religious affiliation.
College aged students are becoming an increasingly lost and urgent mission field. Good programs, staff and ministries are important but unless a movement of God occurs in the hearts of students even the best programs, staffs and ministries will not see fruit.
Will you, your church or small group commit to pray for one of the 25 colleges and its students on the National Collegiate Day of Prayer and into the remainder of 2016? If you are willing to intercede for a movement of God among students on a particular campus, please register your commitment on the National Collegiate Day of Prayer website (http://www.collegiatedayofprayer.org/user/register). Additionally, we ask that you contact us so that we can communicate with you about specific needs, challenges and opportunities on the campus for which you have registered.
